Goomalling
Whether driving through or staying over, experience yesteryear in historic Goomalling.
Located 45km north-west of Northam and 50km North-West of Toodyay, Goomalling’s rural charm and the friendliness of its people have visitors returning time and time again. Enveloped by seemingly endless open countryside, the town had its beginning in the 1890's, springing up from beside the train line which was used to ferry miners through to the goldrush towns further north.
Step back in time at the beautifully restored heritage-listed Slater Homestead, offering an ‘early world experience’ with Devonshire teas and light lunches served in Mary’s tearooms (bookings required for groups). For barista coffee and artisinal cakes, visit family-friendly Lot 39 Store & Cafe. Browse through their collection of gifts and homewares or relax with the kids on the Alfresco.
Stargazing in Goomalling
Built in 1856 the historic Slater Homestead is a beautiful venue with accommodation that reflects the period. Being only 2km from town it is the perfect spot to stargaze. Walyormouring Lake and the surrounding reserve is a beautiful wild setting for stargazing. Kids can explore the waterways, gnammas and rocking outcrops then set-up camp and indulge in our magical nights skies. During summer months when the lake is dry stargazers will be able to wander on to the lake bed.
Konnongorring, a small locality halfway between Goomalling and Wongan Hills, provides a beautiful setting for stargazing with no light pollution. Camp in the Konnongorring Recreation reserve on the old football oval, surrounded by native bush land - leave a donation to help the Konnongorring community maintain the facilities for you. Or Gabby Quoi Quoi lookout offers panoramic views of the surrounding farmland, bush and wide open skies.
